1795 50C 2 Leaves AU58 PCGS. O-103, R.5. Although not the rarest 1795 half dollar variety, this piece is one of the finest we have seen, and is better than anything recorded by Steve Herrman in recent auction sales. The best examples that he records are an NGC AU53 that last appeared in August 2001, an XF45 in October 1992, and two different XF40 coins in 1996. Examples of this variety grading VF30 and VF25 are the best that have appeared at auction in the last five years.
This piece is an intermediate die state with extensive obverse and reverse die cracks, but struck before examples of O-103a with its large reverse rim break. It is fully lustrous with satiny surfaces beneath golden-brown color and lovely iridescent toning, with some lighter ivory representing the original mint brilliance. Some rim imperfections on each side are the result of edge lettering creating small voids in the obverse and reverse borders, and these are entirely consistent with the manufacturing process when this piece was first coined.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
