1795<50C> 2 Leaves AU55 PCGS. O-131, R.4. A scarcer variety that has the unusual berry arrangement of 7 left and 9 right with 2 inside and 1 outside the right portion of the wreath, also star 1 pierces the lowest curl on the obverse. The roster of the finest known specimens is considerably different today from the Condition Census listed in the third edition of Overton. According to Stephen Herrman's auction records for better date Bust halves, the new C.C. would be (63, 63, 62, 58, 58, 55--multiples), which places this piece just inside the C.C. for the variety. Prices at auction for O-131 in AU55 range from $11-$20,000 and all are within the past 2-3 years. This is a spectacular coin with bright surfaces that retain much of the original mint luster. Smoky gray toning is seen in the centers and deepens to deep blue around the margins. Well struck with no mentionable abrasions.
From The Melrose Bay Collection.
