1795 $5 Small Eagle--Cleaned, Rim Damaged--ANACS. AU55 Details. Breen-6412, BD-1, R.5. It is generally agreed by most numismatists who have studied the early half eagles that this variety is first in the emission sequence, thus it is the first half eagle coined by the Philadelphia Mint, making it the first U.S. gold piece. The present example is an intermediate die state with a crack on the obverse from the edge to the digit 9. Although this piece has certain challenges, such as minor rim filing, a tiny reverse rim bruise just past 6 o'clock, and slight evidence of cleaning, it is a highly appealing piece with light yellow-gold color.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
