<B>1795 $5 Small Eagle AU55 PCGS.</B></I> B. 1-B, Breen-6412, Bass-3033, BD-3, High R.3. The obverse die employed on BD-3 is distinguished by the presence of stars 11 and 12 overlapping, with star 11 joined to the upper right arm of the Y. This die was paired with three different reverses, the one here attributed by short vertical die lines above TE in UNITED and by the placement of the wreath opening almost directly between the final S in STATES and the O in OF. We have been fortunate on several occasions in the past to offer several examples of the 1795 Small Eagle five dollar, an immensely popular early gold type. However, in tonight's Platinum session we are thrilled to be able to present no less than five AU and finer representatives culminating with a trio of amazing MS64s.<BR> On this important first year half eagle, appealing reddish-tinged surfaces retain a modest degree of reflectivity after a relatively brief stint in commerce. The obverse displays excellent sharpness on the portrait and only occasional bluntness on the surrounding stars. The central portion of the reverse, more specifically the eagle's neck, head, and right leg (facing) feathers are noticeably deficient beyond the effects of minimal wear. There are no noticeable adjustment marks and the only abrasion worthy of mention is a shallow dig along the reverse border just to the right of six o'clock.
