1795 $5 Small Eagle AU55 NGC. B. 6-F, Miller-9, R.5. There are two major varieties of the 1795 Capped Bust Right Five Dollar: Small Eagle and Heraldic Eagle. Whereas the latter is a backdated issue, the former was actually delivered in 1795 as the premier gold coin in U.S. history. The 1795 Small Eagle is actually one of the more plentiful early Fives in today's market, a fact that indicates widespread preservation at the time of delivery. This is not to suggest that this issue is easy to obtain. On the contrary, first-year type collectors will have to face considerable bidder competition for the honor of owning a high grade (AU-Mint State) representative. The present lot offers a green-gold example that lightens to yellow-gold hues as the surfaces dip into the light. Scattered abrasions and highpoint rub are indicative of the assigned grade, but remnants of a prooflike finish are still evident. Well detailed throughout with a pair of shallow planchet voids (as struck) in the left obverse field and a strike through (also as made) in the center of the reverse. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
