1795 $5 Small Eagle--Obverse Damage, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Breen-6412, BD-3, High R.3. Star 11 overlies the Y of LIBERTY and joins star 12, the only 1795 obverse with this feature. On the reverse, a leaf touches the bottom of U in UNITED, another touches the right bottom of the left foot of N and extends past the center of N, and the wreath has four berries, two each side, inside and out.
Yellow-gold surfaces retain traces of luster in the recesses, and display splashes of apricot and red. Sharp definition is noted on the well centered design elements, and the dentilation is complete and strong on both sides. A small scalloped mark (hardly noticeable at first glance) was punched into Liberty's shoulder and the field below, causing a nearly imperceptible bulge in the corresponding area of the reverse, and some fine hairlines are visible under magnification. These flaws are really not all that bad, and should not intimidate the prospective bidder.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
