1795 $10 13 Leaves--Tooled--ANACS. AU53 Details. Breen-6830, Taraszka-1, Bass-3169, BD-1, High R.3. The half eagles and eagles of 1795 represent a historic first for the fledgling U.S. Mint, as they represent the earliest-dated gold coins actually struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Since the BD-1 is considered the first of the five eagle varieties dated 1795, this coin represents the first eagles coined at the U.S. Mint! Much appeal remains on this lovely and lustrous example, which boasts radiant surfaces that appear (mostly) original and uncleaned, with medium antique-gold centers deepening to amber and red-gold at the rims. The AU53 details grade appears accurate, as only slight highpoint wear is evident. Fortunately, the "tooled" proviso refers not to the devices, but to a shallow reverse patch in the field between the eagle's left (facing) wing and the wreath that appears to have been smoothed out, likely to remove a scrape. Many numismatists, in the absence of a high-powered loupe, would miss the "improvement," and the piece nonetheless is extremely commendable in its appeal. It is simply a beautiful coin.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
