1795 $10 13 Leaves MS62 NGC. Breen-6830, B. 2-A, Taraszka-2, R.4. The tip of a palm leaf nearly touches the lower left base of the U in UNITED, and the star after the Y in LIBERTY is comparatively distant from that letter. Taraszka-2 is scarcer than Taraszka-1, with which it shares a common reverse. The dies are slightly rotated counterclockwise. Five different varieties of 1795 Eagles are known, and these divide a scant mintage of 5,583 pieces. Given the low production per die marriage, it is not surprising that this lovely piece features semi-prooflike luster. Sharply struck, only the eagle's breast exhibits light mint-made adjustment marks. A few faint handling marks in the fields are to be expected of the MS62 grade, however, there are no individually distracting abrasions. Although coinage at the fledgling Philadelphia Mint began in 1792, only copper and silver pieces were produced prior to 1795. The delay was due to high surety bonds that had to be paid by Assayer Albion Cox or Chief Coiner Henry Voigt in order to protect the depositor's bullion. These bonds were eventually reduced, and Half Eagles and Eagles were finally struck in the summer of 1795. Rare and desirable in all grades, the majority of survivors are in XF and AU condition. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
