1795 $10 13 Leaves--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. Unc. Details. Breen-6830, Taraszka-1, BD-1, High R.3. Harry Bass and John W. Dannreuther's Early U.S. Gold Coin Varieties, an indispensable reference for students of early gold, notes that the total mintage of Draped Bust, Small Eagle eagle coinage was only 13,000-15,000 pieces or thereabouts, representing less than two years' worth of production, from September 1795 to about June 1797. The 1795 Draped Bust, Small Eagle tens are much more available than the 1796 or 1797-dated pieces, and probably represent about two-thirds of the total coinage of the type.'
The obvious cleaning is confined to a small obverse area before the forecurl, around BER in LIBERTY, where a small dark patch of hairlines stands as testimony, while elsewhere the coin is really quite pleasing, with lustrous yellow-gold surfaces and only light hairlines in the fields. There are no singular abrasions noted, and much appeal remains on this historic early gold type coin.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
