1795<1/2 C> Lettered Edge. C-1, B-1, Low R.3. Die State 2. XF45 NGC. VF20 EAC. With pole; Leaf point above F. A small reverse rim break connects three dentils above ED. The swelling at AME is barely visible. This Lettered Edge variety is popular and always in demand. Quite a few higher grade examples survive to satisfy the needs of type and date collectors. Despite the relatively high census, attractive and problem-free examples of any grade are hard to locate. Attractive dark chocolate surfaces have a few light bumps and bruises as expected for the grade. None of these are individually significant. Remaining detail on both sides suggest a good overall strike, and full borders on both sides are the result of excellent centering. In the Wyatt catalog, this coin was described as light brown and highly attractive with smooth and glossy surfaces. The cataloger for the Wyatt Sale graded it a conservative Fine 12! The stricter grading standards employed by EAC members suggest a grade in the range of Fine 12 to VF20.
