Sharpness near VF30 but covered with uniform fine granularity on all but the highpoints which are smooth. No verdigris and the only mark is a barely visible rim bruise at the top of the reverse. Slightly glossy medium olive brown and steel with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. Sharply struck with nice eye appeal in spite of the imperfect surfaces. M-LDS, Breen state VI early, with a strong bisecting die crack down through the portrait and a faint crack from the rim through the cap to the back of the head. The date and legends are complete and strong. Graded VF35 net F15 by Del Bland and tied for CC#8 in his census. Noyes says VF35 net F12 and tied for CC#9, his photo #24389. Struck with the reverse rotated 10-15 degrees clockwise. A very nice example of this tough die variety, and it comes with a great provenance that has been traced back more than a century. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 15% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.

Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder.
