1794 S$1 VF20 ANACS. B-1, BB-1. This is an impressively pedigreed example of this very rare and historically significant early Dollar. Only 1,758 pieces were struck and somewhere between 120 and 140 examples survive today in all grades. This coin shows the adjustment marks that are typically found on early silver coins, and especially on 1794 Dollars. The surfaces are toned in a pleasing light silvery-gray shade with faint golden and lilac accents. The central obverse is well defined with slightly better detailing on the reverse. Thanks to Dave Perkins' copy of Jack Collins' unpublished manuscript on 1794 Dollars, we were able to quickly trace the pedigree of this important coin. Two lesser quality VF20 examples of this legendary rarity that we have sold recently are from our February 1999 Sale, lot 5295, a coin that had been cleaned and repaired and still realized $23,000. At the FUN Sale last year we sold another VF20 with a repair in the field that brought $27,600. What is this uncleaned, unrepaired example worth?Ex: Thomas L. Smith Collection (Stack's, 6/57), lot 973; Snyder Collection (Stack's, 4-5/87, lot 305; 1987 Dallas Sale (Heritage, 12/87), lot 708; Brooks Collection (Bowers and Merena, 8/89), lot 143. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium.
