1794 Liberty Cap Cent. Head of 1793. G4
Slightly glossy light olive and steel brown. No corrosion or verdigris, but covered with extremely tiny contact marks, mostly on the highpoints of the obverse leaving those areas with a matte appearance. None of these marks is significant at all, but there are too many of them to ignore. The best identifying marks are a trio of thin vertical nicks at the bottom of the bust tip, a small planchet chip in the wreath left of the C in CENT, and another smaller one on the right side of that E. The upper half of the date is visible but the lower half fades into the rim below. LIBERTY is clear and the portrait is relatively strong, certainly consistent with a higher grade. The reverse is unevenly struck, with the lower left strong and the upper right weak leaving STATES OF faint at best. The edge lettering is complete and strong, including the downturned leaf following DOLLAR. In addition, the edge lettering is blundered reading ONEONE HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR. Removed from an ANACS slab graded G4 (ANACS label included, and the label shows the correct attribution and mentions the blundered edge lettering).
Mike Iatesta.
