1794 H10C AU58 NGC. V-2, LM-2, R.5. The surfaces of this coin are light silver-gray in color with a faint trace of gold toning starting to form in the peripheral fields. The strike is average for this variety, with a hint of weakness on Liberty's lower curls, but the reverse is fairly sharp. We note some very light scratches, one left of the eagle's head and another crossing the tops of his thighs and past the nearby leaf on the left. This is the first year of issue and a very popular coin with collectors. There is a short die line which connects the tops of the two claws of the eagle, and a very short die crack from the rim past the upper left of the M in AMERICA. If one must find fault, this coin is a bit washed out, but the color and surfaces are better than many seen even in this upper grade. Needed by date, type and variety collectors alike, keeping constant pressure on any specimens of this early half dime that are offered.
Ex: Bowers and Merena (1/03), lot 179.
From The Richard J.
