Thin Planchet with Lettered Edge. Sharpness VF25 but dark olive and steel with patches of pitting on the obverse and fine granularity elsewhere. No verdigris but there are some marks including several light rim bruises on the reverse and a pair of old scratches right of the F in HALF. The pitting is located mostly around the date and at ERTY. The date and legends are easily readable in spite of the roughness. MDS, Manley state 2.0. The die crack from the dentils to the cap is visible but not strong. Struck on a lightweight planchet (87.5 grains versus the 104.0 grain standard for 1794 half cents) and it has a lettered edge. Many of the edge letters hang off the thin planchet, but they are readable. We know of only 6 examples struck on a thin, lettered edge planchet (see page 45 in the Manley reference on the series).
