1794 50C VF20 PCGS. O-101, R.4. The variety is attributed by star 1 piercing the lowest curl, and 10 berries on the left wreath and 11 on the right one; this is the only reverse with 21 berries. There is a faint die crack from the rim through the F of OF that then goes to the top leaf, making this an intermediate die state between O-101 and O-101a. Donald Parsley, in his fourth edition of United States Early Half dollar Die Varieties, says that the die crack through the F to the leaves "turns upward at a sharp angle, just missing the outer berry, it crosses a single leaf and the last S in STATES." The crack on the current coin is not that extensive.
The fields are medium gray with imprints of sky-blue, thereby highlighting the lighter gray design elements. Nice definition is apparent in Liberty's hair and in the eagle's wing and tail feathers. The reverse dentilation is bold, as is that on about one-half of the obverse. Some light adjustment marks are visible along the lower right obverse border and in the middle of Liberty's portrait. A few linear circulation marks are also noted on the portrait. All in all, the surfaces are quite clean for the grade designation, and for a coin that is 200 plus years old.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
