1794 50C--Obverse Damage--NCS. Fine Details
1794 50C --Obverse Damage--NCS. Fine Details. O-101a, R.4. A splendidly original 1794 half dollar that was previously part of the May 1990 Coin Galleries sale, lot 2586, where it was plated (envelope included). Adjustment marks at the right reverse rim are typical for the issue and are forgivable. The two attempted punctures under the E in LIBERTY, however, are not, hence encapsulation in an NCS holder. Still, this coin shows well and the flawless reverse grades Very Fine without question. This is actually a transitional die state between O-101 and O-101a, as the second reverse die crack from F in OF does not quite reach the second S in STATES. Considering that most Flowing Hair halves have impairments of some sort, the issues with the current coin should have little impact on the final hammer price.
From The John Stimson, Sr. Collection, Part One.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
