1794 50C Good 6 PCGS. O-104, R.5. Although the toning tends to obscure certain fine details, we do not see any evidence of the die cracks that appear on later examples.
Dusky gold toning over light gray surfaces with traces of iridescent accents, subdues the appearance of this pleasing piece. A few fine scratches and other insignificant imperfections are consistent with the grade.
This variety ranks among the more plentiful of all 1794 die marriages, and yet only 50 to 60 pieces are known in all grades. While O-101 is clearly the most common variety, O-104 and O-105 are also available with a little patience. All other 1794 varieties are rarer than these. While this specimen is not among Condition Census pieces, its early die state is particularly relevant to the advanced specialist.
Haseltine-2; Beistle 2-C; Overton-5; Hilt 1-B; PCGS# 6051; Encyclopedia-4552.
Ex: John Guisinger (Denver ANA, 8/2006).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
