1794<1C> Talbot, Allum & Lee/Earl Howe Mule XF45 PCGS. Breen-1047. A mahogany-brown piece with smooth surfaces. Less actual wear than a first glance suggests, since the strike is soft on the major devices. Die breaks along the left obverse (Howe side). After Talbot, Allum & Lee went out of business, dies for their tokens fell into the hands of British Condor makers, who muled the dated LIBERTY & COMMERCE side with various unrelated dies to create delicacies for collectors. Earl Howe was a British naval hero, mentioned on the Rhode Island Ship Tokens.
From The Oak Collection of American Colonial Coinage.
