1793 S-5 R4 Wreath Cent with Large LIBERTY NGC graded AU55
1793 S-5 R4 Wreath Cent with Large LIBERTY. NGC graded AU-55. Vine & Bars Edge. Frosty light olive and steel brown with delicate overtones of sea green and light bluish steel covering the fields and protected areas. Possibly lightly cleaned long ago but the frosty toning is attractive and the eye appeal is excellent. Just a few trivial marks on smooth surfaces that are void of any planchet flaws. The notable marks are a microscopic speck of verdigris or crud nestled between the right two leaves of the sprig above the date and extremely faint abrasions around the outside edge of the obverse rim (visible only under strong magnification). Sharply struck EDS, Breen state I. The border beads above LI and BER have not crumbled (the ones over LI crumble first, but Breen failed to differentiate to this degree), although the border beads above LI are starting to swell. The obverse is struck very slightly off center to K-8 causing weakness in the border beads in that area. The reverse is off slightly to K-4 but all the border beads are sharply defined on that side. Overall a really nice example of the Large LIBERTY type which is represented by this single die variety. Our grade is EF45. The S-5 variety attribution is noted on the NGC label.
Estimated Value $30,000-UP.
