Sharpness VF30 but moderately corroded, and the obverse fields have been lightly smoothed to minimize the roughness. Only a few tiny specks of verdigris show in protected areas, and a few old, very light hairline scratches on the cheek are the only other defects. The glossy dark chocolate brown patina effectively hides much of the roughness, and the eye appeal is rather decent in spite of the corrosion. The date and legends are all bold except for the usual weakness at CE in CENT due to swelling in that area. E-MDS, Breen state I. A most acceptable example of this very rare variety. Tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #27282.
