1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Chain reverse, AMERICA. G6
Nice glossy steel and chocolate brown with dark chocolate toning in the protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and quite attractive for the grade, perfectly free from corrosion or verdigris. Only a few minor marks, including a shallow pinprick under the N in ONE and a thin planchet fissure at the O in OF, as struck. The date is easily readable, although the digits are not strong, and the legends are all visible. LDS, Breen state III, with strong die clashmarks and minor die swelling visible on both sides. Excellent eye appeal for a lower grade Chain cent.
Tom Reynolds 6/89-Mike Iatesta. Note: This sale contains many early date cents from the collection of Mike Iatesta. He focused on obtaining cents of low to medium grade but with nice color and surfaces, ones free of any significant defects that might justify a difference between the sharpness and net grades. Experienced collectors of early large cents will appreciate the difficulty of such an undertaking, and will find many choice lower grade pieces in this sale. Enjoy!
