1793 Chain 1C AMERICA--Damaged, Corroded--ANACS. VF Details, Net Fine 15. S-2, High R.4. This issue's status as the premier Cent in U.S. coinage history confirms its continued popularity among type collectors and early copper specialists alike. As members of both groups know, the 1793 Chain Cent is also a one-year type. The present survivor, while not without problems, is a desirable mid-grade representative with plenty of remaining definition over all major design elements. The reverse is sharper than the obverse, as befits the type, and both sides are a little rough from corrosion. The otherwise medium brown color yields to antique-gold shadings in the reverse field. A group of moderate indentations in and around the central obverse are noted. From The Collection of Dennis Ridings. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
