VG10 PCGS.</B></I> S-1, R.4. An impressive example of the Chain AMERI. Cent--one of the most desirable and highly sought after of all United States coins. While Chain AMERI. Cents are enormously popular today, contemporary public outcry demanded a new design in early 1793, after the press and Philadelphia locals complained that "Liberty was in chains." The Mint complied by completely redesigning the Cent, not once but twice, in 1793 alone. This piece shows numerous small abrasions on each side, but the obverse shows a rather dense cluster around the figure of Liberty. The chain and other reverse devices are sharply defined, as always seen on Chain Cents, relative to the lack of detailing seen on the obverse. Most easily attributed by a reverse rim bump at 7 o'clock, and a vertical abrasion or planchet flaw on the lower reverse, also located at about 7 o'clock. Mislabeled on the PCGS insert as an AMERICA variety rather than the much scarcer AMERI. </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Date</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Service</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Price</B></TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>03/22/1997</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$3,220.00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
