1793/4 Electrotype Copy of a Smith Counterfeit wi
<Our item number 136174>1793/4 Electrotype Copy of a Smith Counterfeit with 1793 Liberty Cap Reverse. VG-7. Glossy mix of chocolate and steel brown with reddish chocolate on the reverse. The underlying base metal shows through on the face and a few other highpoints. Both sides are covered with small contact marks and traces of very light roughness. The electrotype shell for the obverse was made from a 1794 cent reengraved as a "Smith Counterfeit" with a new "1793" date. The reverse shell was made from a 1793 Liberty Cap cent with Reverse-L (shared by S-13, S-14, and S-16). An improbable combination, to be sure. The edge lettering was added but it is not complete. A fantasy copy of a "counterfeit." Quite odd!
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
Ex Ira S.
