1793 1C Wreath Cent--Vine and Bars--MS61 Brown NGC. S-
1793 1C Wreath Cent--Vine and Bars--MS61 Brown NGC. S-8, Low R.3. The scarcer of the two collectible Obverse 9 varieties, Sheldon-8 is distinguished from Sheldon-9 by the reverse bow, which is triangular rather than heart-shaped. Sheldon-5 through Sheldon-11 comprise the collectible Wreath cent varieties, which were only struck in 1793, the first year of Large cent production at the fledgling U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. Although Wreath cents are not especially rare in worn out or corroded condition, Mint State survivors are few and far between, and under tremendous demand both from copper specialists and early type set collectors. The present piece offers consistent medium brown color, and is unusually void of contact, since a wispy obverse pinscratch at 7:30 is all that can be found. A few minor planchet flaws between 2 and 3 o'clock on the obverse are of mint origin. Not fully struck, but all major details are evident. Luster shimmers when the piece is rotated beneath a light. A significant opportunity for the Early American enthusiast.
