1793<1C> Liberty Cap. S-15, B-22, Low R.7--Damaged--NCS. Good Details. Fair 2 EAC. Just 12 examples of this rarity are known, placing it behind only the NC-6 as the rarest of the 1793 Liberty Cap Cents. The Reiver Collection coin is tied with one other example as the most affordable of all 12 coins known. Both sides of this pleasing medium brown coin have old, blended surface scratches and minor dents. While this coin is damaged, as described by NCS, it is a highly desirable and pleasing example of an extremely rare variety. Del Bland, who prepared the Condition Census used in Walter Breen's Large Cent Encyclopedia, traced this coin back to a Henry Chapman sale held in 1915, with the next entry being its unattributed appearance when it was acquired by Herb Silberman. As there was no illustration in the 1915 catalog, we are not certain how Mr. Bland determined that these offerings were the same coin.
Ex: Herb Silberman; Chuck Furjanic; Denis W.
