1793 1/2 C VF25 PCGS. C-2, B-2. R.3. The forelock is below IB in LIBERTY with the bottom edge of the bust smoothly curved. The right stem end joins the final A in AMERICA. Coinage in the opening year of Mint operations was limited to copper as the legalities of silver and gold production had not been cleared. Chain cents were coined in March, Wreath cents in April, half cents from July to September, and Liberty Cap cents also in September.
Pleasing color, sharp details, and excellent centering are immediately evident when this piece is examined. Microscopic porosity is revealed upon close inspection with light orange color at the borders indicating that it has been cleaned and recolored.
