1793 1/2 C Fine 15 PCGS. C-1, B-1, High R.3. Manley Die State 3.0, with a prominent rim die break on the reverse between 1:30 and 3 o'clock. Dr. Manley reports this terminal die state as "very rare." This deep brown representative exhibits bold peripheral legends, although HALF CENT is worn. Liberty's eye and profile are sharply defined. Careful inspection locates a thin, faded mark above the pole on the left obverse field, but the overall appearance is smooth, and there is only marginal evidence of the often pervasive verdigris common to early half cents. Cohen-1 is less famous than the Sheldon-1 AMERI. cent, but both varieties are similar in that they represent the first die pair used to strike the denomination during the groundbreaking year of 1793.
