1793 1/2 C AU58 NGC. C-2, B-2, R.3. The cap is far from the Y of LIBERTY, and the 1 numerator is centered over the 200 denominator. This is a beautifully smooth near-Mint State specimen of this available variety, a one-year type coin and a wonderful candidate for a high-grade type set. The lustrous surfaces are smooth milk-chocolate in color, with no porosity or singular marks, save for a couple of rim bumps on each side. While some numismatists say that first Mint Director David Rittenhouse and/or Adam Eckfeldt designed this coin, others say it was the talented and short-lived Joseph Wright. There is less doubt about the design's inspiration, Dupré's Libertas Americana medal of 1782. The reverse die is rotated about 40 degrees clockwise.
