<B>1793 1/2 C AU53 NGC.</B></I> C-3, B-3, R.3. This attractive piece exhibits pleasing tan and olive color with smooth surfaces. Close examination reveals a few faint hairlines and virtually undetectable corrosion. The right obverse border is somewhat indistinct, as often for this variety, yet the balance of the design elements are boldly defined. It is a late die state with light reverse die rust scattered throughout the upper part of the wreath. A tiny surface dent above the left side of the first S in STATES will serve as an excellent pedigree marker. The 1793 half cents offer a trifecta for the collector: the first year of coinage by the U.S. Mint, the first year of issue for the denomination, and a one-year design type.
