The ''Gazette,'' a biweekly Federalist newspaper created by John Fenno, was first published in New York in 1789 but followed the government to its new seat in Philadelphia. In response to its partisan articles, the ''National Gazette'' was created in 1791 at the urging of anti-Federalists Jefferson and Madison. 4pp. newspaper measures 10'' x 16.5''.
