This boldly struck and semi-prooflike example is principally medium brown and steel blue, although glimpses of mint red reside in protected areas of the reverse. The obverse has a few tiny and unimportant gray spots. Teenaged engraver John Gregory Hancock of the Westwood Mint struck the Large Eagle and Small Eagle cents in an attempt to secure a Federal coinage contract. Instead, the United States established its own mint in 1793. Listed on page 77 of the 2008 <I>Guide Book</B></I>.
