1789 Edition of the Gazette of the United States. 10” x 16”, four pages, July 15, 1789, published by John Fenno, New York. The Gazette of the United States was an early American newspaper first issued on 15 April 1789 as a biweekly publication friendly to the administration of George Washington, and to the policies and members of the emerging Federalist Party. This edition contains an editorial concerning “female indelicacy” which declares that “An indelicate woman is a nuisance to society…who, mistaking obscenity for wit, is perpetually uttering bawdry in plain terms to raise a laugh…”. The paper has toned and has been folded, else very good. Ex. Henry E.
