Gentleman's Magazine. 1788 ILLUSTRATION OF A NOVA CONSTELLATIO COPPER. The Gentleman's Magazine. Vol. LVIII, No. 6, Part II (December 1788). 8vo, self-covered. 1039-1131, (1) pages. 2 copperplate engravings, one folding. Complete. Removed from previous binding, else near fine. The entire issue of this notable publication. Includes a brief letter signed by "T.W. Jee" (page 1069) discussing a few coins illustrated on a facing plate, one of which is a Nova Constellatio copper. Described as "a new American coin," the 1785-dated piece constitutes one of the very few instances of an 18th-century American coin being depicted in a contemporary printed publication, making this a very desirable accompaniment to one of the actual coins.
