<B>1788<COPPER> Vermont Copper, Bust Right Good 6 PCGS.</B></I> RR-28, Bressett 21-U, High R.5. Examples of this variety are known struck over earlier pieces, and also struck on new flans. This example is struck over what appears to be a counterfeit British halfpenny, with GIVS and III visible on the reverse. A rare variety, and likely very rare in this nearly terminal die state. The reverse has sunken to the extent that the seated effigy can only be identified by her extremities. The obverse has a large horizontal break across the neck, and a more slender but still sizeable diagonal break connects the O in VERMONT to the hair ribbon. Sharpness of a higher grade where the die state allows, although ETLIB and UCT in AUCTORI are weak. The high-quality surfaces also suggest a higher technical grade.
