1788 COPPER Vermont Copper, Bust Right AU50 PCGS. Ryder-20, R.4. All Vermont coppers are difficult to grade, and this example is no exception. Collectors of this series understand the frustration that can be experienced when seeking high-quality examples. Nearly all Vermont coppers are lower grade, or they are plagued with various problems. The surfaces on this example are hard and glossy with a combination of olive, reddish-brown, and gold colors. Although fine, microscopic scratches appear on the bust, this is one of the most pleasing Vermont coppers that the collector could hope for. An intermediate die state, the oft-seen die crack through Liberty's head on the reverse has not yet developed, although the die has a light crack through the date. The die state is approximately equal to lot 51 in the Ford sale, and this coin appears to be similar in quality. Lot:5039
