1788 COPPER New Jersey Copper, Running Fox AU50 PCGS. A choice specimen of the ever-popular Running.
1788 COPPER New Jersey Copper, Running Fox AU50 PCGS. A choice specimen of the ever-popular Running Fox variety. Strong detail with finely granular surfaces. This coin shows a full "fox," though if the variety were to be named today there would probably be equal numbers of people wanting to call the animal a horse or dog. Maris 77-dd, 77 1/2-dd, and 78-dd are simply different die states of the same pair of dies and should all be called 77-dd. This piece is from the intermediate state with some denticles appearing on the horse's neck (presumably from the die being hit by a punch or another die), but without the significant die damage that occurred later creating what used to be called 78-dd. Listed on page 50 of the 2003 Guide Book. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
