1788 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Small Head VG/Fair U 1788[COPPER] Connecticut Copper, Small Head VG/
1788<COPPER> Connecticut Copper, Small Head VG/Fair Uncertified. M. 1-I, RR-39, Bressett 25-U, High R.5. This desirable Guide Book variety is technically a Connecticut Copper, but the reverse die was also used to strike several varieties of Vermont Coppers. The obverse die is a holdover from 1787, there as Miller 1.1. The piece appears to be bent, but this is an illusion created by heavily sunken dies, most notably near 9 o'clock on the obverse. The obverse is sharper than the reverse as usual. The surfaces have pleasing light tan color with only minor blemishes. Better than Perkins:491 and perhaps equal to Taylor: 2683. Listed on page 60 of the 2006 Guide Book.
From The Oak Collection of American Colonial Coinage.
