1788<COPPER> Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left AU Details, Scratched, Corroded, NCS. M. 14.1-L.2, Low R.6. From the legendary Perkins collection, there described as "Once cleaned. Both surfaces very striated. Obverse apparently struck through a short piece of wire, noticeable from the left rim into the effigy's head; reverse diagonally flawed in the center in two places." The dies have close to medal turn, the reverse is off center toward 7 o'clock with the date mostly off the flan. A dramatic tornado-shaped die crack from the seated effigy's waist to the rim at 5 o'clock. The 'wire strike-thru' is regarded as a scratch by NCS, an wire-like object could also have been pressed in after the strike. Listed on page 60 of the 2006 Guide Book.
Ex: George C.
