1787 COPPER Vermont Copper, BRITANNIA VF30 Clipped Planchet, Corroded Uncertified.<p>Ryder-13. 119.0 grains. A nice, attractive specimen of a popular coin from one of the finest colonial collections sold in this generation. (It also included great rarities in other areas of U.S. copper and silver, such as a 1794 Starred Reverse Large Cent, a 1794 Silver Dollar, proof 1802 and 1803 Silver Dollars, and three 1796-97 Half Dollars). The reverse legends are actually relatively strong for this die when used in this die marriage. This is the early, relatively scarce, reverse die state. The die state is later than used for Machin's Mills counterfeits but earlier than usually seen when used for Vermont Ryder-13.Ex: Robison (Stack's, 2/10/83), lot 198.From the David Bruce Collection.
