1787 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left AU5 1787[COPPER] Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Le
1787<COPPER> Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left AU50 PCGS. M. 32.6-X.6, R.6. This example is from the Taylor Collection, and is quite possibly the finest known. It is clearly finer than the 1975 Pine Tree coin, the New Netherlands 51st sale specimen, or the Ford Collection example. The fields on both sides are bulged due to die sinking, which presumably accounts for the rarity of the die variety. This glossy medium brown example has impressively undisturbed surfaces. Incompleteness of strike on the devices accounts for their striated appearance in places, and this is strictly as produced. A 1% straight edge clip (as made) at 2 o'clock is nearly obscured by the PCGS holder. Listed on page 60 of the 2006 Guide Book.
Ex: Frederick B. Taylor Collection (Bowers and Merena, 3/1987), lot 2493.
From The Oak Collection of American Colonial Coinage.
