<B>1787<COPPER> Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left AU Details, Planchet Flaw, NCS.</B></I> M. 33.1-Z.19, R.5. A relatively large edge void between 11:30 and 12 o'clock removes most of the 78 in the date. The cataloger of the Taylor Collection described this as unfortunate, however, in our view this adds considerably to the charm of this example. These early coins were never perfectly made. Minor softness of strike at 6 o'clock and opposite on the upper left obverse. Darker toning is near the forehead curl and a shallow obverse flaw is near 4:30. Most of these mentioned imperfections are as made, which makes this technical high grade example significant to the specialist. This is a splendid example that any collector would be proud to own. In fact, this was described in the Taylor catalog as "technically the finest known" and a coin "intended for the serious specialist." Clashed near INDE, as struck. The surfaces are deep brown in color with hints of original luster within some of the letters. Miles ahead of the Ford or Perkins coins.
