1786<COPPER> Connecticut Copper, Mailed Bust Left AU Details, Planchet Flaw, NCS. M. 5.2-H.1, High R.6. Probably the second finest known of the variety, after the ANS specimen. A deep planchet flaw southwest of the shield, and other, lesser mint-made striations are present on both sides. A few light marks, mostly near the nose and shoulder of the bust. The obverse die is failing near 9 o'clock, UC is swollen but legible. Much sharper than Perkins:224, which has some corrosion and a weak AUCTORI and date. Clearly finer than the Ford collection coin, graded VG/Fine, which realized $4,600. Listed on page 59 of the 2006 Guide Book.
Ex: Dr. Thomas Hall; Virgil Brand; New Netherland's 51st Sale (6/1958), lot 72; Frederick B.
