(1785) COPPER Bar Copper MS61 Brown NGC. Breen-1145. T
(1785) COPPER Bar Copper MS61 Brown NGC. Breen-1145. The single finest NGC-certified example of this mysterious post-colonial issue. The diagnostic spur from the end the second bar is present. The mahogany-brown surfaces are unusually void of handling marks, and mint gloss is evident on the devices. Little is known about the mysterious bar copper, aside from a mention in the Nov. 12, 1785 New Jersey Gazette: "A new and curious kind of coppers have lately made their appearance in New York. ... on the one side are thirteen stripes and on the other U.S.A. as was usual on the soldiers buttons." Listed on page 69 of the 2007 Guide Book. Census: 1 in 61, 0 finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
