1785 C Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed
1785 C Nova Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed Rays, Small Date AU53 PCGS. Crosby 2-A, R.5. The 1785 Small Date is the rarest of the regular issue Nova Constellatio coppers, since the extremely rare 1786 issue is believed to be a contemporary counterfeit. The Small Date obverse die apparently began to sink in the center early in its productive life, and as a result, most known examples have softly struck devices. On the present piece, the top of the US is slightly soft, and the all-seeing eye shows some weakness, but the strike is above average for the variety. The medium brown surfaces are smooth aside from minor reverse granularity at 8 o'clock and 10:30. Listed on page 52 of the 2008 Guide Book, where it is unpriced above AU. Population: 1 in 53, 2 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
