Muster Roll for the 8th Company of Foot in the 1st New York Continental Army Regiment...
February 20, 1783-Dated, Partially-Printed Muster Roll Document of the 8th Company of Foot in the 1st New York Regiment.., Fine.
This is a very large and impressive Manuscript Document measuring 21” x 16” and archivally mounted to a slightly larger cloth backing for reinforcement and display. More heavily worn along the vertical centerfold which hosts some small wear holes. This official report displays the names and ranks of over fifty Continental soldiers, mostly privates, in the New York Company commanded by Colonel Von Schaich. The Captain of the Company was J.C. Ten Broeck, who also signs at bottom and “Certified” by “W Barber - Major Adj. Inspector of the Northern Army”. All text is dark and clear, being easy to read in rich brown ink. A small 2” x 5” piece of later writing paper was added at lower right, away from any text, indicating that this document was sent to West Point for display in the year 1874, since Ten Broeck was apparently a graduate of that famous American Military school. A unique, historic and fully authentic document, dating from the waning days of the Revolutionary War that would, once properly framed, display very well. .
