Benjamin Harrison Signer the Declaration of Independence
BENJAMIN HARRISON (1726-1791). Signer of the Declaration of Independence, A Founding Father of the United States of America, , Delegate from Virginia to the Continental Congress and was Virginia’s 5th Governor (1783). In 1788, was a member of the Virginia Ratifying Convention for the Federal Constitution. His son, William Henry Harrison became the 9th United States President, while his great-grandson Benjamin Harrison, born in 1833, became the 23rd U.S. President.
November 15, 1783-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Partly-Printed Document Signed, “Benj Harrison,” (Virginia) Council Chamber, also Signed, “Tho.(mas) Meriwether” as the assistant clerk of the Council of State, tipped to a display cardstock, 1 page, measuring 6” x 4”, Very Fine. This is a Continental soldier’s Land Grant to “Lemuel Murphy, entitled to the portion of land allowed a Private of the Continental line, who has served three years.” The printed text reading “enlisted for the war, and...” has been crossed out as the Revolutionary War had just concluded on September 3rd with The Treaty of Paris (1783) officially ending the American Revolutionary War. A scarce 1783 Revolutionary War related document, boldly signed in deep brown ink measuring nearly 3” long, having choice eye appeal.
Benjamin Harrison V (April 5, 1726 – April 24, 1791), from Charles City County, Virginia, was an American planter and merchant, a revolutionary leader and a Founding Father of the United States.

He received his higher education at the College of William and Mary. Harrison was a representative to the Virginia House of Burgesses for Surry County, Virginia (1756–1758, 1785–1786), and Charles City County (1766–1776, 1787–1790). He was a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777 and, during the Second Continental Congress, was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Harrison served as Virginia's fifth Governor from 1781 to 1784. His direct descendants include two U.S. Presidents, his son William Henry Harrison Sr. and great-grandson President Benjamin Harrison
