1782 Revolutionary War Order For British Cannons To Be Sent To New York City
February 14, 1782-Dated, Manuscript Letter Addressed to “The Respective Officers of His Majesty’s Ordnance at Portsmouth,” Written and Signed by W. Weaver, Tower (of London), Choice Very Fine.
Written on laid watermarked paper, this 12.75” x 8” Letter reads in full:

“Your Letter of 11th inst. (desiring to be informed to whom the Arms lately sent to your place, are to be consigned) I have delivered to Mr. Parish who is directed to send you an ans[we]r respecting the same, as also, in regard to the disposal of the 68 Po[un]d Carronades intended for New York.”

Carronades were a short iron cannon of large caliber. This Letter is lightly toned, with a couple of small holes in the text. Attached integral address leaf has a seal hole, affecting nothing; also a brown circular postmark. An excellent, historic Revolutionary War Letter.
