PETER COLT (1744-1824). American Patriot, New Haven’s Committee of Correspondence in 1774, 1775 became Military Secretary to General Wooster, 1777 Deputy Commissary for the Eastern Department, 1780 assisted in furnishing supplies to the French Troops under Rochambeau, 1789 Treasurer of Connecticut. Peter Colt was related to the Colt Firearms family.
June 1, 1782-Dated Revolutionary War, Partially-Printed Connecticut Treasury Certificate, Payment for Service “in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army,” Superb Gem Crisp Uncirculated. This original, 3.75” x 8” Revolutionary War Period Treasury Certificate was issued to Mr. John Johnson for service “... in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army.” Dated June 1, 1782, this pay Document is in pristine crisp bright fresh condition. Peter Colt (1744-1824) graduated from Yale University in 1764, and during 1768-1776 was engaged in the West Indies trade with Captain Hezekiah Howe. He was appointed one of the Town of New Haven’s Committee of Correspondence in 1774. The following year, he became Military Secretary to General Wooster.

In 1777 the Continental Congress appointed him Deputy Commissary General of Purchases for the Eastern Department (New England and New York east of the Hudson River), with the rank of Colonel. He served in this post through 1779, then in 1780 assisted Colonel Jeremiah Wadsworth in furnishing supplies to the French Troops under Rochambeau. From 1789 to 1793 he was Treasurer of Connecticut. Peter Colt was related to the Colt Firearms family.
